Job summary

The City of Spring Hill is seeking a Maintenance Worker 2 in the Public Works Department. The role involves operating equipment and performing skilled construction and maintenance tasks as part of a full-time team.

You will report to the Construction Superintendent and support field crews in a variety of daily activities. Main duties include equipment operation, preventive maintenance, stormwater inspections, traffic control assistance, and general labor to keep sites safe and productive.

Qualifications

• Stormwater Level 1 Certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

Job description

The City of Spring Hill is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Maintenance Worker 2 within the Public Works Department. This position is responsible for operating equipment and performing skilled construction and maintenance work. This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Construction Superintendent.

Equipment Operation & Maintenance

• Operates jackhammers, mowers, brush chippers, pipe saws, asphalt/concrete saws, and other small equipment.
• Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Reports equipment defects and needed repairs to the supervisor.
• Cleans and maintains assigned equipment.

Construction & Field Support

• Assists crews with digging ditches and trenches, hoisting materials, tools, and equipment, and laying pipes.
• Performs scheduled stormwater inspections and repairs on jobsites.

Traffic Control & Site Safety

• Assists with installing and maintaining traffic control devices.
• Performs all duties in accordance with applicable safety and security standards.
• Maintains a clean and safe work environment.

General Jobsite Maintenance

• Keeps work areas, equipment, and tools clean and orderly.
• Supports crews with general labor and jobsite activities as needed.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Tennessee Driver's License.
• Stormwater Level 1 Certification required, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities for Successful Job Performance:

• Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of standard construction equipment.
• Knowledge of hazards associated with equipment operation and applicable safety rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of traffic laws and ordinances governing equipment operation.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions used in laboring work.
• Ability to quickly and accurately adjust machine or vehicle controls.
• Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
