Job summary

The Door - A Center of Alternatives, Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Worker to support cleaning, sanitizing, and upkeep across classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common spaces. You will help with event setups, inventory, and basic maintenance tasks under the supervision of the Director of Facilities.

Ideal candidates will have a High School diploma or HSE, strong English reading/writing skills, good communication, and the ability to lift up to 75 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Clean / Sanitize rooms and common areas (classrooms, offices, restrooms, etc.).
• Empty trash and manage recycling and waste.
• Maintain inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies.
• Set up for events and move furniture.
• Report needed repairs to supervisor.
• Clear snow and ice from entrances; report emergencies.
• Perform high-dusting and clean hard-to-reach areas.
• Set up and dismantle chairs, tables and equipment as needed.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Each year over 11,500 young people from all five New York City boroughs come to The Door for primary health care, reproductive care and health education, mental health counseling, legal services, supportive housing, HSE, ESL, tutoring and homework help, college preparation and computer classes, career & education services, job placement, daily meals, cultural arts and services.Responsibilities:Clean / Sanitize rooms and common areas including but not limited to: Classrooms, Offices, Restrooms, Meeting Rooms, Gymnasiums, Corridors, Basement and Storage areas etc.Use sanitizing equipment and productsEmpty trash receptacles and ensure all garbage is taken out at the end of each respective shiftUse brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners and various other floor equipment (i.e. Buffer) to maintain all floor surfacesSet-up for events/move furnitureFollow recycling schedule and dispose of cardboard boxes, paper and all other recyclable materialsReplenish restroom supplies as neededMaintain cleaning and other maintenance supplies and keep running inventoryRemove large garbage bins on collection daysInform supervisor of needed supplies in a timely mannerReport to work location for snow or other emergency situationsClears snow and ice from entrances and walkways as neededStrip / Wax floors and Shampoo carpetsClean hard to reach places and completes high dustingCleans refrigerators and other Kitchen equipmentReport any needed repairs to the supervisor in a timely mannerMaintain good working relationship with supervisor and co-workers.Set up and dismantle chairs, tables and equipment based on program needs and according to daily schedulePerform other duties as assigned by supervisorQualificationsHigh School diploma or HSE requiredMust have good communication skills and be able to read and write in EnglishMust be able to lift at least 75 lbsMust be able to stand for long periods of time
