Job summary

HeartShare is seeking a Maintenance Worker to oversee daily upkeep and cleaning of the program facilities in New York. Responsibilities include repairs, painting, plumbing, door fixes, and tile work, as well as ensuring cleanliness, inventory management, and safety compliance.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and basic maintenance skills. Occasional travel to Queens/Brooklyn schools is expected; on-site presence is required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic maintenance duties: changing light bulbs, fixing leaks, door repairs, tile work, painting.
  • Clean and maintain facility interiors and exteriors; arrange furniture as needed.
  • conduct daily water temperature checks and clean restrooms; trash removal and recycling duties.
  • Open/close facility and be on call for security or emergencies.
  • Perform monthly inspections and report incidents to management.
  • Travel between schools in Queens and Brooklyn as needed.

Job description

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for the overall cleanliness and day-to-day maintenance of the Program.

Essential Functions And Primary Responsibilities Of Position
  • Perform basic maintenance duties, including changing light bulbs, ceiling tiles, floor tiles, repair/replace leaking faucets, adjust/install doors, fix/replace door handles, tile work/flooring, sheetrock, plastering and painting.
  • Arrange furniture as requested.
  • Perform cleaning duties, including sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning restrooms/bathrooms, washing walls, vacuuming, stripping, buffing, and waxing of floors, shampooing rugs, cleaning fans and air ducts, etc.
  • Clean lint from dryer ducts.
  • Perform daily water temperature checks.
  • Remove all refuse and garbage from the facility daily and more frequently as needed.
  • Ensure that garbage is put out for pick up on appointed days.
  • Assist in the adequate paper and sanitary supplies are on hand for all designated areas.
  • Ensure the safe storing of all chemicals and solvents according to federal regulations.
  • Conduct regular inventory of cleaning supplies, materials, and tools.
  • Follow all agency, state, and federal regulations to maintain program compliance, including OSHA regulations
  • Assist in other facilities or work as part of a crew, when requested.
  • Maintain exterior of the facility, including light snow/ice removal, trash removal, playground maintenance as needed, light gardening, sweeping, painting, etc.
  • Open and close facility as needed.
  • Be on call for security and emergencies at the facility, as needed.
  • Perform monthly comprehensive physical plant inspection of the site and complete checklist to ensure that all problems are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that all incidents, including allegations of abuse and neglect, are reported immediately upon discovery to Program Management.
  • Participate in in-service trainings as required for professional growth and development.
  • Travel between schools in Queens and Brooklyn when needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned, consistent with the scope, responsibilities, and level of the position, and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
Qualifications
  • Maintain Certificate of Fitness for the Boiler from the NYC Fire Department as needed by the facility preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED Required
  • Driver's License Required.
  • Competent with Repairs & Maintenance.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Experience in basic maintenance skills (light plumbing, painting, carpentry, etc.)
