Job summary

Catholic Charities Community Services' Beacon of Hope House seeks a dedicated Maintenance Worker to keep our facilities safe, clean, and well-maintained at the Cooke Residence. The role focuses on interior and exterior upkeep, painting, basic repairs, and coordinating with vendors.

You will work 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., full-time, with responsibilities to protect residents and staff, monitor hazards, manage supplies, and support maintenance across sites as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Experience in the maintenance/janitorial field.
  • NY state Driver's license required.
  • 3-5 years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Overall interior and exterior buildings’ cleanliness.
  • Maintain site safety by assessing, monitoring, and resolving hazards.
  • Report building-related problems to supervisory staff.
  • Maintain supplies inventory and distribute as needed.
  • Perform maintenance, repairs and painting at the site.
  • Operate light machinery and equipment to maintain the building.
  • Coordinate repair work with vendors as directed.
  • Set up, break down and move furniture or equipment.
  • Assist with bedbug remediation and related activities.
  • Monitor and review work by Transitional Employees Program workers.
  • Assist with tasks related to maintaining agency vehicles.
  • Support maintenance operations at other Beacon of Hope sites.
  • Perform all other tasks as assigned by Beacon of Hope leadership.

Summary

To maintain the physical environment of Beacon of Hope Programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for overall interior and exterior buildings’ cleanliness
  • Maintain the safety of the site by assessing, monitoring, and resolving hazards
  • Report all building related problems to supervisory staff
  • Responsible for maintaining supplies inventory, and distributing when such indicated
  • Perform maintenance, repairs and painting at the site
  • Operate light machinery and equipment to maintain the building
  • Maintain immediate exterior of facility
  • Coordinate repair work with vendors as directed
  • Set up, break down and move furniture or equipment
  • Responsible for amelioration of bedbugs, including cooperating with exterminator, cleaning out rooms, removing furniture, and other related activities
  • Monitor and review work completed by Transitional Employees Program workers
  • Assist with tasks related to maintaining the agency vehicles
  • Support the maintenance operations at other Beacon of Hope sites, as needed
  • Perform all other tasks as assigned by Beacon of Hope leadership
Physical Demands

The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  1. Employee walks, sits, stands, bends, subject to lifting over 50 pounds and moves continually during working hours. Employee will be exposed to the use of routine cleaning and other chemicals.
  2. Ability to travel to and within fieldwork sites and other locations throughout New York City using public transportation, traversing streets, ascending/descending stairs, and exposed to outside weather conditions.
  3. Traverse neighborhoods that may require a high level of alertness and awareness of surroundings.
  4. Assess and work in varied environmental conditions.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, Hours - 8:30a.m. – 4:30p.m.

Qualifications
Education and/or experience required
  • High School Diploma or its equivalent
  • Experience in the maintenance/janitorial field
  • NY state Drivers license required
  • 3-5 years of related experience
