Job summary

Heartshare in New York seeks a Maintenance Worker to upkeep HSVS facilities interiors, exteriors, and grounds, ensuring a safe, welcoming environment and compliance with codes. You will perform daily checks, manage work orders, and sanitize all spaces throughout the day.

Responsibilities include deep cleaning, minor repairs, snow removal, inventory management, and coordinating with vendors as needed. High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; forklift/OSHA/maintenance certificates a plus.
  • Knowledge of janitorial equipment and proper chemical handling.
  • Ability to use automated work order system and basic digital tools.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair building interiors, exteriors, and grounds.
  • Conduct daily facilities checks and report needs to supervisor.
  • Perform cleaning (sanitation of restrooms, classrooms, offices, common areas).
  • Perform deep cleaning tasks as scheduled (floor waxing, carpet shampooing, fridge cleaning).
  • Assist with minor repairs (carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical).
  • Move, assemble, disassemble furniture and equipment.
  • Assist with snow removal and salting as needed.
  • Keep inventory and manage supplies; support vendor access.

Job description

Under direct supervision, the maintenance worker maintains and repairs HSVS owned and leased facilities, including the interiors, exteriors, and grounds. Will ensure safe and hazard free conditions, and that the facilities maintain compliance with applicable codes and regulations. Must have solid maintenance/repair skills as detailed below.Essential Functions and Primary Responsibilities:In addition to responsibilities below, performs all other duties as assigned.Uses positive approaches when handling difficult situations. Avoids gossip and negative discussions. Remains flexible and adapts to change.Serves as role model for program participants, abides by dress code and conducts self in a professional manner at all times.Remains sensitive and responsive to cultural differences of program participants and staff.Participates in in-service trainings and on-site workshops as required for professional growth and development. Attends external trainings and workshops at direction of management.Represents the organization both within and outside of the work environment in a manner that promotes the mission, vision and values of the agency. Personally, adheres to organizational mission, vision and values, in addition to all other agency policies and procedures.Maintains and repairs buildings interiors, exteriors, and grounds, as instructed, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment. Ensures hazard prevention and compliance with applicable regulations and codes.Conducts daily facilities checks of both interior and exterior. Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders.Works off of an automated work order system, from which tasks are assigned by supervisorClean facility daily. Sanitizes all restrooms, classrooms, common areas, and offices throughout the work day. This includes, but is not limited to wiping down surfaces, cleaning windows and window sills, sweeping/mopping/vacuuming floors, scrubbing toilets, sinks and all tile, cleaning vents, etc.Deep Cleaning tasks, as required. These tasks include stripping/waxing of floors, shampooing carpets, deep cleaning refrigerators, etc. These tasks will be assigned on a weekly, monthly, semi-annual, annual or seasonal basis, as appropriate.Light maintenance duties, repairs and improvements, as assigned. This includes, but it not limited to light carpentry, painting, unclogging drains, stopping minor leaks, electrical (installing ballasts, light fixtures), install/repair locks.Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.Will provide vendors with access to areas for cleaning and may answer basic questions. Will report issues with vendors to supervisor.Unlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas.Moves, assembles/disassembles furniture and other items as needed.Performs snow removal & salting, when necessary.Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment; recommends orders for supplies for supervisor approval.Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of work place safety and environmental practices.High school diploma or GED RequiredAssociate's degree or equivalent PreferredKnowledge of how to properly use janitorial equipment including waxing/buffing equipment, snow blowers, power washers, vacuum cleaners, brooms, mops, etc.Familiarity with proper operation of electrical equipment (drills, etc.) and manual hand tools (hammer, screwdrivers, etc.) sufficient to carry out job tasks listed.Knowledge of how to properly use chemicals, including cleaning/sanitizing products, as well as green products.General knowledge of building trades (painting, sheetrock, plastering, plumbing, electrical, etc.) to undertake small repairs in these areas under direct supervisionSufficient academic and computer / smart phone skills to be able to use an automated work order system (including written progress notes, uploading photos, marking work orders complete).Sufficient academic and communication skills to undertake training and certification for various certificates of fitness courses, i.e. OSHA 10, FDNY S-95, F-07.BenefitsWhat we offer once YOU join our growing family:At Heartshare we offer a comprehensive benefit package based on full-time/part-time status.
