Responsibilities

• Seasonal tasks such as cleaning roof drains, gutters, and tree maintenance.
• Member of the snow removal team to ensure safe and accessible school premises.
• Weekend and after-hours work may be required.
• From plans and specifications, perform work in electrical, plumbing and related trades.
• Uses power tools and equipment for maintenance tasks.
• Estimates material requirements and provides a bill of materials to the supervisor.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Orders and accounts for materials and labor relative to assignments.
• Maintains safety and code requirements of all applicable standards.
• Performs general maintenance inside and outside the physical plant (ceiling, roof, electrical, plumbing, etc.).
• Recommends supplies and equipment and maintains inventory of district-owned tools.
• Works from scaffolds and ladders and in varied environmental conditions.

A Maintenance Worker is needed for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Worker's main responsibility will be to keep the facilities of Glenview Public Schools in a condition of operating excellence and maintain a working climate conducive to productiveness for the entire school community.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to Maintenance Supervisor/Director of Operations

LOCATION:

This position is a district-wide position and travels to locations where needed

WORK YEAR:

12-month position (the district is on a July-June fiscal year)

SALARY:

starting at $26.25/hour

START DATE:

As soon as possible

Qualifications

• Ability to be detail oriented and to meet deadlines

Performance Responsibilities

• Seasonal jobs, such as cleaning roof drains, gutters, tree maintenance
• Part of the snow removal team to ensure a safe and efficient clearing of snow and ice from school premises to maintain accessibility and safety for students, staff, and visitors.
• Weekend and after hours may be required.
• From plans, schematics and specifications, performs work in his/her specialized trade area related to the construction, renovation and major repair of classrooms, labs, offices, and other structures
• The performance of these duties uses power tools, both shop and portable.
• Estimates material requirements, field measures where necessary and provides a detailed bill of materials to the building supervisor for ordering purposes
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Other Construction/Repair Tasks (not Limited To)

• Accurately orders and accounts for material and labor relative to assignments.
• Maintains all safety and code requirements of the State, local and Board of Education guidelines
• Performs general maintenance work inside and outside the physical plant such as ceiling, roof, electrical, plumbing, concrete, masonry, glazing, insulation, tile and pump and fan repairs
• Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase as well as maintains the inventory of district-owned electrician hand tools, equipment, hardware, materials and supplies
• Ability to work from scaffolds and ladders in excavations and tunnels and in extremes of environmental conditions

Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to lift, pull and carry parts or equipment of up to 75 pounds and to push up to 75 pounds and to climb ladders and maneuver into cramped spaces. Also strong visual skills for monitoring equipment, observing color-coded items, and reading blueprints are required. Must be able to travel between buildings and may be on call in case of emergency situations. Must be able to work inside and outside in all weather conditions as needed.
