Job summary

Freudenberg is seeking a maintenance technician in Durham, NC to proactively identify and prevent failures across industrial equipment. You will maintain, repair, and upgrade a range of systems, apply precision lubrication and balancing, and support a 24/7 operation while upholding safety standards.

Collaborating with electrical and process teams, you will help prioritize tasks, document preventive actions in the CMMS, and contribute to ISO/TS quality practices.

Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree preferred in Industrial Systems or related field.
  • Certificates in PLCs, Hydraulics, and/or Pneumatics are beneficial.
  • 0–5 years of technical support experience in an industrial environment.

  • Maintain, repair, and upgrade process equipment including various systems and machinery.
  • Apply lubrication, alignment, balancing and preventive inspections to avoid failures.
  • Support ISO/TS quality management and contribute to maintenance system feedback.
  • Collaborate with electrical, process and reliability teams to prioritize tasks.
  • Assist in 24/7 operations and on-call rotations, ensuring safety standards.
  • Train other maintenance personnel to improve reliability and safety.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide skilled maintenance support to proactively identify and prevent failure points in operations equipment by interpreting operator feedback, understanding machine status indications and functions, and recommending action.
  • Maintain, repair, and recommend upgrades for process equipment including blowers, chillers, compressors, blowers, boilers, various types of pneumatic and hydraulic systems, industrial HVAC systems, extruders, heaters, dehumidifiers, web conveying, winding, slitting, and other equipment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of rotating equipment failure modes and maintenance techniques to identify, prevent and correct. Familiarity with best practices for lubrication, precision alignment & balancing, and proactive inspections to identify failures prior to failure itself.
  • Contribute to improving our maintenance management system through Root Cause Analysis and resolving errors that occur with a preventive mindset.
  • Collaborate as a multidisciplinary team member with electrical, process, and reliability colleagues to prioritize tasks and investments to meet operational needs and initiatives for an assigned area of the plant.
  • Support and engage in our ISO/TS quality management system by maintaining equipment to a high standard of care and contributing feedback to the maintenance management system to prevent any deviations in critical-to-quality processes.
  • Support maintaining plant utilities, including steam, compressed air, chilled water, cooling tower waters, exhaust fans, and associated equipment systems.
  • Assist engineering in the design, installation, start up, shut down, and planned maintenance of new or modified equipment in accordance with US and Freudenberg safety procedures and standards.
  • Maintain high standards for workmanship and housekeeping before, during, and after work, and contribute to cleanliness and 5S adherence in shared areas.
  • Contribute to rotating on-call duties providing maintenance expertise and hands-on support when needed.
  • Provide skills training to other maintenance personnel to enhance equipment reliability and safety.
Qualifications:
  • A two-year technical degree in Industrial Systems or related field focusing on machine maintenance is preferred but not required in lieu of professional experience. Certificates in PLCs, Hydraulics, and/or Pneumatics are beneficial.
  • 0-5 years of technical support experience working in an industrial environment, prior experience in extrusion, plastics, and web handling or winding is a plus.
  • Experience and computer skills within a Computerized Maintenance Management System for preventive maintenance work tracking and corrective requests is preferred.
  • Experience and training in pipefitting, sheet metal fabrication and welding are preferred.
  • Good communications skills, both verbal and written, and ability to collaborate effectively with team members of varying levels of technical experience.
  • Ability to work overtime or non-regular hours when needed to support 24/7 operations. Must be able to assist in on-call rotation.
  • Ability to obtain Powered Industrial Truck and Arial Lift Equipment certifications on site.
