The City is recruiting for a Maintenance Technician who would work in our Parks Maintenance Division.
This position falls under the USW union contract. The starting hourly pay is $22.033, with a structured wage progression outlined below, as per the City’s contract with the United Steelworkers (2022-2024). Please note that the contract is currently under negotiation.
- Starting hourly wage: $22.033 / $45,828 annually
- Step 2 (after 12 months): $24.347 / $50,642 annually
- Step 3 (after 24 months): $26.662 / $55,456 annually
- Step 4 (after 36 months): $28.976 / $60,271 annually
- Step 5 (after 48 months): $31.291 / $65,085 annually
- Step 6 (after 60 months): $33.605 / $69,899 annually
Job Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Athletic Field Manager, the Maintenance Technician performs a wide range of maintenance tasks, often working alone or as part of a crew. Activities include heavy physical labor, operation of motorized equipment, and outdoor work in various weather conditions. Responsibilities include:
- Operating various motorized vehicles and equipment, such as dump trucks, backhoes, loaders, and mowers.
- Utilizing hand tools for maintenance and repair tasks.
- Using mobile devices for work orders, record-keeping, and communication.
- Maintaining and repairing city vehicles and equipment.
- Conducting inventory and requisitioning supplies.
- Supporting special events with traffic control and debris removal.
- Implementing safety measures, including barricades and traffic control devices.
- Cleaning and inspecting sewer lines, monitoring wastewater facilities.
- Performing landscape maintenance, planting, watering, and groundskeeping.
- Maintaining parks, paths, and sports fields.
- Performing preventative maintenance and repairs on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other systems.
- Carpentry, masonry, painting, and drywall work.
- Electrical repairs for streetlights, traffic signals, and lift stations.
- Fabrication, installation, and repair of traffic signs.
- Setting up work zones and maintaining job sites.
- Operating CDL and non-CDL equipment.
- Assisting with custodial duties at city facilities.
- Responding to emergency repairs on-call, 24/7.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Operational knowledge of mechanical, electronic, and motorized equipment.
- Experience with construction and maintenance methods, materials, and tools.
- Initiative and responsibility to work efficiently with or without supervision.
- Safe and correct use of hand and power tools.
- Understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to complete work orders and reports.
- Manual dexterity for a variety of tasks.
- Effective communication and courteous interaction with the public and colleagues.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license and Ohio Class A CDL with Tanker and Air Brake endorsements (must be obtained within 6 months of employment).
- Flexibility to work on-call, 24 hours for emergencies.
