Maintenance Technician Park District in Sheridan

Hiring $42,065 - $47,708 annually based on qualifications,education and experience as it relates to the position.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Park Maintenance Supervisor and/or LeadMaintenance Specialist in assigned Park District, this position isresponsible for learning and performing the various skills that areassociated with all aspects of park maintenance, including turf,irrigation, shrub and tree care, and facility maintenance withaccepted maintenance practices for developed parks. May be required towork weekends, evenings, holidays, and be on snow watch as well aswork shifts deviating from this position’s normal work days and/orwith other work groups.

• Performs all cultural maintenance practices inherent tomaintaining irrigated turf grass parks including mowing, aeration,fertilization, and irrigation.
• Assists in maintenance of tree and shrub care, includingplantings, removals, weed/pest control, pruning, and shrub bed maintenance.
• Perform trash and recyclables removal operations. Clean and clearpark grounds and facilities of litter and debris, operation of atrash/recyclables removal truck, common hand tools, installation andremoval of waste receptacles and dog waste station maintenance.
• Maintain public shelter facilities including roof repair, picnictable repair, trash receptacle repair, stocking of supplies,painting, staining, restroom cleaning, sanitizing, and grill maintenance.
• Assist with the inspection of all parks’ irrigation systems anddrinking and ornamental fountains as needed and assist with skilledmaintenance including irrigation repairs to mainlines, valves,laterals, heads and pumps.
• Assist staff with District sponsored events, making deliveries ofmaterials and supplies necessary to meet the requests of facilityrentals and work orders. Set up and disassembly of event tents,tables, picnic benches and chairs.
• Assist with the documentation and routine inspection and repairsto play equipment within the district playgrounds.
• Ensure proper care of assigned tools and equipment, performmaintenance on small equipment and notify appropriate personnel ofneed for tool, equipment or vehicle maintenance service or repairs.
• Using District watering equipment provide supplemental watering tonew plantings.
• Complete daily activity reports and records as required. Thisposition may require attendance and involvement in meetings onproject progress, safety, park maintenance practices, proceduralchanges and other topics related to the operations of the District.
• Perform snow and ice removal using plow trucks, blowers, shovels,ice scrappers, de-icing salt, etc.
• Respond tactfully, respectfully and in a timely fashion toinquiries and problems in person, by email, phone and mail providinghelpful information and explanations in-line with District policiesand procedures. Handle confrontational or stressful interactions.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings and, orientations.
• Attend work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis. May berequired to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and be on snow watchas well as work shifts deviating from this position’s normal workdays and/or with other work groups.

Education and/or Experience:

• Must be eighteen (18) years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Any combination equivalent to one (1) years progressive skilledlabor experience that is inherent to park or related groundsmaintenance with an emphasis on turf care, installation andmaintenance of irrigation systems, playground equipment, parkfacilities, urban forestry, and horticulture.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:

• Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or the ability toobtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of maintenance operations, irrigation systems, modernlandscaping principles, methods, and best management practices.
• Knowledge of work-place safety procedures and the ability toadhere to safe work practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of laws, regulations, and methods of pesticideapplication and the safe and proper use of pesticides andappropriate personal protective gear.
• Knowledge in the use and general maintenance of hand, power andmotorized tools associated with landscape maintenance.
• Knowledge in the safe and proper operation of snow plows and snow blowers.
• Basic computer and email skills.
• Ability to train employees, community service workers, and volunteers.
• Ability to exercise good judgement and practice proper safetyprecautions at all times. Comply with District and Departmentalvision, mission, rules, regulations, safety protocols, policies, and procedures.

Material and Equipment Used:

To successfully perform the required job duties, this positionregularly uses pick-up with manual or automatic transmission, snowplow truck, ATV or out-front mower with snow plow, blowers, shovels,ice scrappers, de-icing salt, trailers for towing equipment ormaterials, tractors, and skid steer with various implements. Handtools including, but not limit to, shovel, rakes, screw drivers,hammers, and wheel barrows. Electrical power tools including, but notlimit to, drills, circular saws, and jig saws. Motorized power toolsincluding, but not limited to, weed trimmer, backpack blower,rototiller, walk-behind mower, snow blower, and chainsaws. Pesticideapplication equipment including high or low pressure sprayers andbackpack sprayers, pesticides, fertilizers, and De-Icing salt. Thisposition also uses a personal computer, smart or cell phone. Thisposition regularly drives a District vehicle during the course ofdaily work, and a personal vehicle to additional District facilitiesfor meetings, training, and other business purposes.

This position regularly requires strenuous work outdoors withexposure to a variety of weather conditions, ecosystems, andlandscapes. Outdoor working environments can be wet, humid, andextreme in temperature variations, ultra-violet radiation exposure,and precipitation, including unlit or low light night-time activities.Regularly exposed to environmental hazards including exposure to loudnoises, fumes, dust, gases, molds, grasses, fertilizers, pesticides,solvents, oils, greases and wildlife/insects such as bees and wasps.

Physical Requirements:
