You will troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and automation problems on kettles, steam systems, fillers, cappers, cooling tunnels, conveyors and packaging equipment. You will own preventive maintenance on your assigned equipment, find the root cause of repeat failures, and make sound repair and safety decisions on your own, including when you are the only technician on shift.
Troubleshooting and repair
- Independently diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic failures to restore the line quickly and safely
- Respond to breakdowns, set repair priorities with Production, and keep leadership informed of status and expected run time
- Find the root cause of repeat failures and put permanent fixes in place
Electrical and controls
- Troubleshoot 480V three-phase power, motor controls, starters, contactors, relays and control circuits
- Diagnose and replace VFDs, servo drives, motors, sensors, photo-eyes, proximity switches and encoders
- Read schematics and ladder logic; troubleshoot basic PLC, HMI and I/O faults
- Follow NFPA 70E safe work practices, including proper PPE and verifying zero energy
Hot-fill process equipment
- Maintain and repair jacketed kettles, agitators, steam supply, steam traps, valves, regulators and condensate return
- Maintain sanitary pumps, product transfer lines, heat exchangers and hot-fill holding systems
- Set up, adjust, centerline and repair fillers, cappers, cooling tunnels, conveyors, labelers and coders
- Support changeovers, start-ups, shutdowns and CIP-related equipment issues
Preventive maintenance
- Plan and complete PMs on assigned equipment during scheduled downtime, with little or no supervision
- Help build and improve the 52-week PM plan, including task lists, frequencies and spare parts
- Create and close work orders in the CMMS, recording parts, time and findings
- Flag critical spare parts and stock needs before they cause downtime
Safety and food safety
- Follow GMPs, HACCP, allergen controls, LOTO, hot work, confined space, fall protection and all OSHA requirements
- Keep equipment and work areas sanitary during maintenance and account for all tools and parts before returning equipment to production
- Report and correct unsafe acts and conditions immediately
- Complete required quality, safety and food-safety documentation
