Job summary

Dallas County’s Juvenile Department seeks a versatile maintenance worker to support building upkeep, plumbing, electrical and HVAC tasks. The role requires responding to emergency calls during evenings, overnights, and weekends, with duties across jail facilities. A valid Texas driver’s license and a good driving record are required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited High School/GED program.
• 6 months of general maintenance experience in a mechanical field or 1 year of formal work-related training.
• Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and a good driving record.
• Position may involve working with juveniles in a demanding environment.

Responsibilities

• Performs minor maintenance, emergency repairs and adjustments to buildings, plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems. Coordinates with On Call supervisor for assistance as needed.
• Performs scanning, logging, inspections and/or maintenance of building mechanical equipment: logs meter readings, checks consoles and floor units for proper operation.
• Works on jail doors: adjusting, repairing parts of door mechanisms, as necessary.
• Performs inspections on main and auxiliary mechanical systems, including air conditioning, boiler condensation tanks and pumps.
• Performs weekly and monthly operational and maintenance inspections.
• Maintains and completes reports, as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
