Job description

Job Title: Maintenance Technician III/Junior Technician

Company Overview: Vanderlande Industries is a leading supplier of baggage handling systems and services worldwide. We are responsible for the service and maintenance of the baggage handling system at Portland International Jetport (PMW).

Job Description
  1. Perform preventive maintenance including inspection, adjustment, cleaning, and replacement.
  2. Manage tote running operations.
  3. Attend to call outs, faults, alarms, and warnings; supervise staff, schedule, and train.
  4. Address stoppages and bag jams efficiently.
  5. Assist maintenance technicians with repairs, breakdowns, and preventive maintenance tasks.
  6. Report activities through CMMS.
  7. Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical systems.
  8. Communicate with relevant parties regarding work performed and system status.
  9. Assist with inventory counts.
  10. React promptly to messages from the control room or management.
Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 1 year of technical experience in an industrial environment.
  • General mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an airport badge (including drug screening and background check).
  • Willingness to comply with FAA, TSA, and other jurisdictional authority requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year experience in industrial manufacturing or material handling environments.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (e.g., Maximo, SAP).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Flexibility with time and ability to shift priorities.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Customer service orientation.
  • Proactive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Working knowledge of computers and equipment.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Technicians work in secured baggage handling areas, repair stations, or on airfields, often under strict deadlines. The role involves physical activity including bending, stooping, reaching, lifting items over 50 pounds, and working outdoors in various weather conditions. Travel may be required (up to 15%).
