Job description

Magnetic Component Engineering (“MCE”), a subsidiary of Dexter Magnetic Technologies (“Dexter”), manufactures permanent magnets and magnetic assemblies made to demanding customer specification in the aerospace / defense, semiconductor equipment, medical, and industrial end markets. MCE is based in Torrance, CA and operates one 48,000 square foot facility with 85 employees.

Basic Purpose and Objective of the Position:

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of production and facility equipment, ensuring continuous operation within a high-precision manufacturing environment. They execute preventive maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, support new equipment installations and provide general facilities maintenance, all while adhering to safety protocols and quality standards to maintain equipment reliability and optimize production efficiency.

Major Responsibilities: reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions:

  • Perform routine inspections on the facility and operations equipment.
  • Carry out regular preventive maintenance and skilled repairs on complex electrical and mechanical production equipment and systems, as assigned, to mitigate risk and reduce downtime.
  • Change coolant, oils, and other fluids according to established schedule in CMMS (eMaint) and by following manufacturer recommendations using maintenance manuals and drawings.
  • Diagnose, repair, and replace worn parts during assigned work.
  • Ensure that all safety standards and policies are followed while completing assigned duties, including LOTO.
  • Ensures that all facility areas and workstations are free of hazardous materials and objects that could lead to injuries.
  • General facility upkeep, such as replacing lights, basic plumbing and fire system knowledge.
  • Troubleshooting equipment issues including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, programming, and other possible failures.
  • Assist Engineering with new equipment installation and qualification process.
  • Maintain and report accurate records of work activities within the CMMS system.
  • Provide detailed and accurate reports of work activities and progress to Facilities Supervisor, including requesting parts or other supplies needed to properly complete assigned tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned

Hourly Rate: $28 - $38.50 depending on experience

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1+ years maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of HVAC, Fire Prevention Systems, Lock-Out Tag-Out, pneumatics, digital multimeters and CMMS proficiency.
  • Ability to drive forklifts and operate scissor lifts.
  • Time management (adaptability, organization, and flexibility)
  • Clear, concise, and timely communications with all levels of personnel.
  • Able to work from simple verbal instructions, listed objectives in CMMS, or by researching proper steps in Maintenance Manuals.
