Job summary

Silgan Closures is seeking a Maintenance Technician II in Kingsport, TN to support molding machines, robots, and packaging systems. This position focuses on electrical and mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, and drive controllers while maintaining a safe, climate-controlled work environment.

You will perform preventive maintenance, read schematics, and collaborate with production teams to minimize downtime.

Qualifications

• Industrial manufacturing experience with 5+ years.
• Able to adapt to fast-paced, change-oriented environment.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Proficient in reading schematics and using CMMS.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain molding machines, robots, conveyors, and auxiliary equipment.
• Diagnose electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system failures.
• Perform preventive maintenance (PM) to reduce equipment downtime.
• Respond to machine alarms and identify root causes of equipment issues.
• Repair electrical controls, PLCs, HMIs, vision systems, and drive controllers.
• Upload and restore machine control programs when needed.
• Repair, calibrate, and adjust robotic equipment and pick-and-place systems.
• Read and interpret OEM manuals, schematics, gauges, and measuring tools.

What You'll Do as a Maintenance Technician II:

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain molding machines, robots, conveyors, and auxiliary equipment.
• Diagnose electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system failures.
• Perform preventive maintenance (PM) to reduce equipment downtime.
• Respond to machine alarms and identify root causes of equipment issues.
• Repair electrical controls, PLCs, HMIs, vision systems, and drive controllers.
• Upload and restore machine control programs when needed.
• Repair, calibrate, and adjust robotic equipment and pick-and-place systems.
• Read and interpret OEM manuals, schematics, gauges, and measuring tools.
• Order replacement parts and coordinate with equipment manufacturers and vendors.
• Complete equipment setups, adjustments, and changeovers to support production.
• Enter maintenance activities and work orders into the maintenance management system (CMMS/EAM).
• Support quality standards by identifying and correcting production issues.
• Conduct root cause analysis for safety, quality, and equipment failures.
• Assist with machine reliability improvement projects and equipment audits.
• Coordinate repairs with production teams to minimize downtime.
• Maintain a clean, safe workplace and follow all safety policies, including Lockout/Tagout procedures.
• Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to Level I Maintenance Technicians.
• Collaborate with maintenance staff, production personnel, and external technical resources.
• Recommend improvements to increase equipment reliability, efficiency, and safety.

What You'll Need to Have:

• Technical degree preferred or equivalent technical experience (5+ years) in an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Must be accurate and trustworthy with a positive attitude that embraces change and continuous improvement in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent personal leadership and organizational skills.
• Thorough understanding of electrical and mechanical maintenance required.
• Proficient computer skills to include MS Office and Microsoft Outlook
• Working knowledge of CMMS.
• Good mathematical and analytical skills.
• Ability to read schematics.
