Job summary

COUNTY OF HIDALGO assists in a broad range of maintenance tasks across roads, parks, sanitation, and facilities management. The role focuses on entry-level maintenance and construction work, often with close supervision and the need to operate basic equipment.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, a Texas driver’s license, and the ability to be insured by the County. Multilingual (Spanish/English) preferred for group work and safety communications.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in construction, maintenance and repair preferred.
  • Must have a current valid Texas motor vehicle operator’s license and be insurable by County.”

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and construction duties including installing culverts.
  • May operate chainsaw to clear brush from right of way and drive County vehicles to haul materials.
  • Tamps, packs and levels dirt, gravel or asphalt; use hand tools for digging trenches or holes.
  • Maintain parks, pools, grounds, and equipment; perform minor repairs to tools, equipment, and trucks.
  • Maintain and repair County buildings plumbing and electrical systems; assist in fence building and painting.
  • Assist in sanitation operations; schedule work orders and respond to maintenance needs.
