Job Summary

This position assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of campus-wide buildings and facilities. Responsibilities include performing general carpentry, repairs, maintenance, or construction work; assisting skilled technicians with minor repairs of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems; independently performing maintenance tasks requiring limited professional skill; and other related duties. The work is performed within a general outline, with methods and sequences developed under supervision.

Essential Job Functions

• Assist skilled technicians in maintenance and repair tasks such as carpentry, locksmithing, electrical work, heating, plumbing, venting, and HVAC.
• Help with hanging sheetrock, laying tile, carpet, linoleum, etc.
• Clean and maintain tools and equipment.
• Load and unload equipment and supplies.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose routine equipment and system problems; perform routine repairs or parts replacement.
• Paint walls and other surfaces as needed.
• Move furniture and heavy items as required.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One (1) year of experience in repairs and maintenance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of manual tasks and safety practices.
• Skill in using various trade tools and equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor and arithmetic.
• Effective communication skills.
• Organizational, planning, and prioritization skills.

Physical Demands

Requires medium-to-heavy work involving walking, standing, stooping, lifting, and exerting force between 20 and 100 pounds. May involve working in small spaces, outdoors, and in various weather conditions. Some hazardous situations may occur.

Working Conditions

Exposure to various environmental conditions such as dust, extreme temperatures, noise, fumes, electrical hazards, heights, and chemicals.
