As a Maintenance Trainee, you will train with our Maintenance & Operations teams to acquire the fundamental skills needed to become a successful Maintenance Worker I. Under the general supervision of the General Manager, Division Manager, and Field Supervisor, you will learn routine maintenance work for the City.
The Maintenance Trainee will assist maintenance crews in routine grounds maintenance such as mowing, weed-eating, fertilizing lawns, landscaping, weeding, cleaning flower and shrub beds, litter control, edging, and walk cleaning. You will operate landscaping equipment like mowers, weed-eaters, backpack blowers, and edgers, and may operate standard vehicles. You will be introduced to techniques through on-the-job training and classroom courses, receiving guidance from team members on maintenance issues, citizen interaction, and trust-building.
Successful completion of the program may lead to eligibility for a Maintenance Worker I position, with increased pay and benefits.
Who we are looking for: Passionate about maintenance, curious, a clear communicator, a team player, personable, level-headed, motivated, solution-oriented, and organized.
Minimum Qualifications: At least 18 years old, high school diploma or equivalent, valid Washington Driver’s License, pass background and driving record checks. Steel-toed shoes required on first day.
Heavy manual labor in all weather, lifting up to 50 pounds, walking on uneven ground, physical activity, maintaining professionalism.
