Job description

Join to apply for the Maintenance Technician I role at Gwinnett County Government.

The Department has Maintenance Technician vacancies in the Roadway Operations and Maintenance Division. The primary goal of the Division is to maintain the roads and right of ways in Gwinnett County to ensure safe driving conditions for the public works infrastructure.

Responsibilities include:

• Operating various complex vehicles and equipment, performing construction and maintenance duties on public roadways, airfields, sewer, water, and stormwater lines, or hauling waste sludge.
• Maintaining traffic control at work sites to ensure safety.
• Performing daily inventory checks on service trucks and obtaining necessary tools and equipment.
• Transporting materials and heavy equipment to work sites.
• Inspecting roads, bridges, airfields, and right-of-ways for safety and efficiency.
• Performing minor repairs and preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Cleaning and repairing manholes, removing debris, and maintaining sewer lines.
• Providing landscaping maintenance such as grooming, clearing branches, and maintaining grass, shrubs, and flowers.
• Addressing erosion and drainage issues.
• Repairing pipes and maintaining roads, ditches, water mains, and fire hydrants.
• Performing other similar duties as required.

Additional Information:

• This is a safety-sensitive position requiring pre-employment and random drug testing.
• May require on-call duties, emergency after-hours, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications:

Maintenance Technician I: Completion of coursework through eighth grade or equivalent experience; valid driver’s license; some positions require a CDL obtained within six months.

Maintenance Technician II: Same educational requirement; one year of related maintenance experience; valid driver’s license; some positions require a CDL obtained within 12 months.
