Job summary

ALABASTER CITY SCHOOLS is seeking a Maintenance Technician specialized in HVAC to maintain safe, clean, and comfortable school facilities. You will perform preventive maintenance, supervise cleaners, and ensure compliance with district policies.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, relevant maintenance experience, and a valid Alabama driver’s license. A CDL may be required. This is a twelve-month, full-time role with salary per the current district schedule.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Good general health.
• Training or experience in building maintenance, construction, electrical, or mechanical areas.
• Valid Alabama driver's license; CDL may be required.
• Alternatives to the above qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Board of Education.

Responsibilities

• Ensure cleanliness of buildings, grounds, and equipment; supervise cleaners.
• Regulate heating, air conditioning and other environmental controls for economical fuel use.
• Open and close the building as directed by the principal.
• Perform basic maintenance and repair operations.
• Maintain a daily work log and submit monthly to Coordinator of Operations.
• Report maintenance issues to the principal for assistance.
• Maintain a file and log on every item of mechanical equipment.
• Perform required preventive maintenance inspections.
• Assist in campus landscape planning and maintenance.
• Attend training sessions as scheduled by Coordinator of Operations.
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• Maintain confidentiality of school system information.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or Coordinator of Operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REPORTS TO:

Maintenance Supervisor

SUPERVISES:

Personnel employed to provide support in assigned areas.

JOB GOAL:

To provide students with safe, clean, attractive, and reasonably comfortable facilities and to protect the investment in buildings, grounds, and equipment.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Insure the cleanliness of school buildings, grounds, and equipment by:
   1. Supervising the work of individuals or services employed to assist in cleaning and assuring that standards are met.
   2. Inspecting for cleanliness and reporting conditions to the principal.
   3. Performing cleaning operations when necessary.
2. Regulate heating, air conditioning, and other environmental control systems for economical usage of fuel.
3. Open and close the building as directed by the principal.
4. Perform basic maintenance and repair operations.
5. Maintain a daily work log and submit to Coordinator of Operations monthly.
6. Report to the principal any maintenance problem requiring special assistance.
7. Establish and maintain a file and a log on every item of mechanical equipment located at the school.
8. Perform the required preventive maintenance inspections.
9. Assist in the development and implementation of a campus landscape and use plan.
10. Cut grass, prune, and remove trees and shrubs as required.
11. Maintain proper and professional relationship with students and other employees.
12. Perform duties in a manner that promotes good public relations.
13. Maintain a work area for storage and for keeping records.
14. Comply with local, state, and federal regulations relative to maintenance regulations.
15. Be familiar with and follow Board of Education policies.
16. Promote good public relations.
17. Attend training sessions as scheduled by Coordinator of Operations.
18. Be regular and punctual in attendance.
19. Maintain confidentiality of any school system related business.
20. Perform other job-related duties that might be reasonably assigned by the principal or Coordinator of Operation

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Twelve-month (240-day) contract. Salary according to appropriate current schedule. Non-exempt employee.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy.

Appropriate placement on current salary schedule.
