Job summary

Hostelling International USA in Boston is hiring a Maintenance Associate to keep our hostel in top condition and ensure a welcoming guest experience. The role is full time with a 32-40 hour work week and includes benefits and opportunities for growth.

Key duties include completing repairs, monitoring building systems, supervising on-site vendor work, and assisting housekeeping as needed. We value teamwork, reliability, and guest-focused service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 3+ years of hands-on maintenance experience in a hotel, hostel, or similar hospitality environment.
• Proficient in using tools and performing physical maintenance tasks.
• Able to read simple instructions, write basic reports, and communicate with staff and guests.
• Basic math skills including fractions and percentages.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Enjoy helping the public and calmly handling guest issues or emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Identify and complete repair tasks; record and resolve work orders promptly.
• Maintain an active project list and work plan using facilities management software.
• Perform upkeep and repairs: plumbing, painting, grounds, and building systems.
• Monitor HVAC, fire alarms, sprinklers, electrical, and plumbing.
• Supervise and document vendor work when on site (pest control, HVAC, plumbing).
• Manage daily waste, recycling, and compost; keep related areas clean.
• Perform janitorial tasks and assist housekeeping as needed.
• Climb ladders, lift parts, and access crawl spaces as required.
• Support other departments and take on special projects as assigned.
