Job summary

State of Indiana is seeking a Maintenance Technician for Indiana State Prison in Michigan City to perform repairs across plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and grounds. The role offers Monday–Friday hours, training, and a clear route to supervisory positions.

Qualified candidates should have broad trade knowledge, strong planning skills, and the ability to read blueprints. A valid driver’s license is required, and a degree is not necessary.

Qualifications

• Broad knowledge of electrical systems, carpentry, plumbing and painting trades.
• Ability to plan, schedule and supervise job sites.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and remediation plans.
• OSHA standards and safety practices knowledge.
• Ability to estimate project costs, hours, and equipment needs.
• Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Solicit cost estimates or cost proposals for maintenance projects.
• Estimate costs and work hours for maintenance tasks.
• Oversee preventive maintenance and repairs of facilities.
• Maintain accountability of materials, tools, equipment, and vehicles.
• Ensure compliance with safety requirements for personnel and work.
• Recruit, onboard, and train employees; provide development opportunities.
• Set expectations, monitor progress, and evaluate performance.
