About Wabash Valley Correctional Facility

Wabash Valley Correctional Facility is a multi-level security facility located in Carlisle, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 2,200 incarcerated adult males. The facility includes both maximum-security and minimum-security housing. Programs support rehabilitation through educational services, treatment, and specialized initiatives. Role Overview

As a Maintenance Technician, you'll join a full-service maintenance team at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility, supporting daily repair and preventive maintenance across plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and grounds. The facility uses newer HVAC systems, which may require some additional training - training we provide to help you build confidence and skill in modern equipment. This Monday-Friday role offers steady hours, strong safety practices, and hands‑on experience. We provide training for motivated individuals beginning or growing their maintenance careers, with a clear path for advancement into supervisory and leadership roles (Maintenance Technician → Maintenance Supervisor → Physical Plant Director). Salary

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience. Depending on the retirement plan you choose, the total compensation value of a $42,900.00 salary, including the State's retirement contributions, can reach approximately $69,822.98. A Day In The Life

• Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
• Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.
• Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position.

What You'll Need For Success

• Broad knowledge of electrical systems, carpentry, plumbing and painting trades.
• Ability to plan, schedule and supervise job sites.
• Ability to fill in for other foreman to ensure the operation of the department.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and other remediation plans and documents.
• Thorough knowledge of standard practices, processes, materials, procedures, and the ability to use tools and equipment of the various trades, such as carpentry, plumbing and electrical.
• Thorough knowledge of the OSHA standards, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), occupational hazards and safety precautions required of the various trade areas.
• Ability to plan and estimate project proposals in terms of equipment, man hours and costs.
• Ability to endure exposure to inclement weather.
• Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
• Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
• Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.

This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
