Shenandoah County Public Schools is seeking a Maintenance Technician (General) to support the daily maintenance of district facilities in Woodstock, Virginia. The role requires assisting with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, doors/hardware, and playground maintenance, and ensures safe, compliant building operations.

Immediate start; full-time hours as assigned. Daily duties include painting, floor and wall repairs, equipment checks, and timely response to maintenance requests within school

Job Description

Provides for the general maintenance of buildings. Assists with performing basic troubleshooting, replacement, repair and preventative maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, building doors/hardware, carpentry, and playgrounds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists in installing, repairing, and maintaining physical building structures in accordance with blue-prints, sketches, manuals, and building codes using appropriate hand and power tools.
  • Assists with inspecting machinery and mechanical equipment for defects;
  • Assists with constructing and repairing partitions and other wooden structures, using saws, braces, bits, and appropriate materials and tools;
  • Paints walls, floors, woodwork and fixtures, using appropriate materials and tools;
  • Helps with the replacement and repair of floor tiles and carpet, as necessary;
  • Assists with replacing and repairing brick and plaster walls, using appropriate materials and tools;
  • Assists in replacing window or door panes, as necessary;
  • Assists in maintaining correct operation of doors, including locks, closers and panic hardware;
  • Assists with the relocation of mobile classrooms and subsequent ramping to meet ADA requirements;
  • Assists with collection, sales and clean-up of the annual auction of surplus items;
  • Assists with mowing and snow removal at all division schools;
  • Operates and maintains equipment and tools properly;
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area, while adhering to proper cleaning methods, storage, and proper care of equipment and supplies;
  • Observes and promotes safe work practices and procedures at all times;
  • Uses and wears safety and/or protective equipment, as appropriate;
  • Attends inservice training to develop and improve knowledge and skills of a proficient mechanic;
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities;
  • Reports all accidents and/or potential hazards to the Director of Maintenance immediately, or as soon as reasonably possible;
  • Maintains proper boundaries with students at all times, assuring respect for the ethical and legal duties in the staff-student relationship and the essential duty to serve as a role model;
  • Provides a good role model in appearance, demeanor, dress and behavior for the students served;
  • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities;
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance in accordance with school/division policies and practices.
  • Responds to all written correspondence from the department head or other SCPS department or employees in a timely manner.
  • Adheres to the Shenandoah County Public School Board Policies and Procedures.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Hold a valid Virginia driver's license.
