Position Overview & Narrative:

Banyan Living is seeking a skilled and motivated Maintenance Technician to join our team in Canton, Ohio. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in maintenance, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to ensuring the overall safety and satisfaction of our residents. This posting is for future open positions.

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for completing tasks and ensuring the availability of ready apartment units to aid in leasing, coordinating work projects, assisting in monitoring work by outside vendors, and receiving direction from and working with the Maintenance Supervisor and Property Manager at the assigned community. They maintain efficient operation of the facility and upkeep of the property buildings and grounds in a supportive role, taking directions from the Maintenance Supervisor, Property Manager, Regional Property Manager, corporate executives, and property ownership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive work orders both written and electronic or verbal instructions from supervisor.
  • Assist with grounds maintenance, including trimming and pulling weeds on the community property.
  • Assist with vacant suite make-ready initiatives, including but not limited to moving and installing appliances, painting suites, general cleaning, and light electrical, plumbing, and carpentry tasks.
  • Empty trash cans and consolidate trash for weekly pickup.
  • Perform daily walks of the property to pick up litter, ensure trash receptacles are free of debris, and maintain overall ground cleanliness.
  • Paint interior and exterior walls and trim.
  • Operate snow removal equipment to maintain parking lots and sidewalks.
  • Maintain and repair building plumbing and electrical systems, including replacing worn or defective parts such as switches and fuses.
  • Repair or replace building brick, stone, and concrete.
  • Maintain and repair wood parts of buildings.
  • Replace worn or damaged parts such as hoses, wiring, and belts in machines and equipment like trucks, street sweepers, and riding mowers.
  • Assist other team members with moving appliances and unloading and storing supplies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Participate in on-call activities and be part of the on-call rotation.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in using a variety of tools.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize tasks in a self-directed work environment and maintain high productivity levels without direct supervision.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and follow directions.
  • Ability to stand and exert fast-paced mobility for the entire shift.
  • Ability to maintain balance, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, and wipe.
