The Maintenance Technician performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings, requiring practical skills and knowledge in trades such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. Responsibilities include:

• Replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors
• Patching minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings
• Repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets
• Painting structures and equipment
• Repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, sidewalks
• Replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles
• Hanging doors and installing door locks
• Replacing broken window panes
• Performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery
• Other duties as assigned

Depending on the site, Facility Technicians may have different levels or classifications to reflect seniority within the department.

Responsibilities and Knowledge

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Maintaining and repairing machines, mechanical equipment, and buildings
• Fixing or replacing faulty electrical components
• Inspecting and diagnosing problems
• Performing routine preventive maintenance
• Assembling and setting up machinery
• Planning repair work using blueprints or diagrams
• Cleaning and upkeep of buildings and properties
• Ordering supplies
• Preparing estimates and costs
• Keeping detailed records
• Other duties as assigned

Technicians are responsible for maintenance tasks that do not require licensed tradesperson training and must recognize when a job exceeds their skill level.

Technicians will source supplies from distributors or storerooms and must be able to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.

Qualifications

Candidates must maintain the following competencies:

• Ability to obtain OSHA 10 (Construction or General Industry) safety certification within six months (training provided)
• No certifications/licenses required
• Five years of maintenance experience preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent required
