The Maintenance Technician performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings, requiring practical skills and knowledge in trades such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. Work involves duties including:

• Replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors
• Patching minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings
• Repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets
• Painting structures and equipment
• Repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks
• Replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles
• Hanging doors and installing door locks
• Replacing broken window panes
• Performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery
• Other duties as assigned

Depending on the site, Facility Technicians may have multiple levels to indicate seniority within the Department.

Responsibilities and Knowledge

Key responsibilities include:

• Maintaining and repairing machines, equipment, and buildings
• Fixing electrical switches, outlets, and circuit breakers (per local and state regulations)
• Diagnosing problems and determining corrective actions
• Performing routine preventive maintenance
• Assembling and setting up machinery
• Planning repairs using blueprints or diagrams
• Cleaning and maintaining buildings and properties
• Ordering supplies
• Preparing estimates for repairs and costs
• Keeping detailed work records
• Performing other duties as assigned

Technicians should recognize when a job exceeds their skill level and require specialized tradesperson assistance. They will also source supplies from distributors or storerooms and use hand and power tools safely.

Qualifications

Candidates must:

• Obtain OSHA 10 (Construction or General Industry) certification within 6 months (training provided)
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
• Have at least 5 years of maintenance experience preferred
