Qualifications

  • Minimum Entrance Qualifications: two years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in food service equipment maintenance, carpentry, woodworking, or cabinetmaking.
  • Substitution: a diploma or certificate with an appropriate major may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Required knowledge of equipment types, safety practices, and preventative maintenance procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Install or assist in installing heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, or related systems in a food service area.
  • Maintain and repair equipment; inspect and repair food service equipment and fixtures.
  • Assist in installation or relocation of major equipment and in renovations or construction projects.
  • Perform preventative maintenance such as lubricating motors, pumps, and bearings and adjusting belts.
  • Calibrate kitchen equipment to manufacturers' specs (gas or electric ovens, fryers, grills).
  • Assist in setting up facilities for special functions and in repairing furniture or building cabinets.
