Job summary

Savannah Technical College in Savannah, GA seeks a Maintenance Technician (DTAE) to perform skilled and semi-skilled work maintaining facilities and grounds. You will install, repair, and maintain electrical, plumbing, and carpentry systems, assist with renovations, and help with equipment and vehicle upkeep.

• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and plans; basic computer skills.
• Valid driver’s license is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, and oversee electrical systems and hardware.
• Install and maintain plumbing systems and assist with renovations.
• Assist with carpentry and general building maintenance tasks.
• Participate in groundskeeping, landscaping, and vehicle/equipment upkeep.
• Maintain fire alarms, sprinkler and security systems; keep records/logs.
• Coordinate work of maintenance and custodial staff as directed; respond to emergencies.

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled work associated with the maintenance and repair of the college’s facilities and grounds. Installs, maintains or repairs electrical systems and associated hardware;. Installs, maintains repairs and renovates plumbing hardware;. Assists with renovation projects as assigned;. Assists with carpentry projects;. Participates in the repair and maintenance of college equipment and vehicles;. Participates in grounds maintenance activities, including installing and maintaining landscaping, applying herbicides and pesticides, and maintaining parking lots;. Uses and maintains a variety of tools, materials and equipment;. Maintains required records and logs;. Maintains fire alarms, sprinkler and security systems;. Coordinates the work of maintenance and custodial staff as directed by supervisor.. Responds to emergency requests for repairs.

Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent *and* One (1) year of experience in a skilled trade or building maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Three (3) or more years of experience in a skilled trade or building maintenance
• Experience on a College campus
• HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical competencies, licenses and the like
• Experience working for a state agency
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and plans
• Ability to use a computer and knowledge of basic computer program functions
• Valid driver’s license

Physical Demands: Ability to lift/move objects weighing 15lbs or more; ability to use a range of hand and power tools; ability to work in various environmental conditions; ability to climb ladders; ability to work independently. This position is a field position and will require constant movement and repetitive motions.
