Job summary

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to provide maintenance, engineering, and mechanical system support for a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

The role requires reading blueprints, knowledge of healthcare facility codes, and the ability to work with minimal supervision, while driving and operating Children’s vehicles as needed.

Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience in trade work such as electricity, plumbing, heating/ventilation/air conditioning, refrigeration, boilers, and locksmith or HVAC certification from an accredited program if no prior work experience.
  • Must be able to read blueprints and schematics and be knowledgeable of healthcare facility systems and all codes governing inspection, testing and operation of the equipment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work without direct supervision.
  • Must be able to drive and operate Children’s vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and drive Children’s vehicles across the organization to sites based on needs.
  • Perform planned and general maintenance on systems and equipment including inspection, testing, installation, and repair.
  • Maintain accurate logs/records of work in mechanical rooms and know major building systems operations and valve locations.
  • Use hand, diagnostic, and power tools with proper safety practices.
  • Keep tools and mechanical rooms clean, organized, and safe.
  • Assist Engineering Coordinator in purchasing parts and materials for maintenance.
  • Meet in-service requirements and comply with safety and infection control standards.

Job Description

Provides effective and efficient maintenance, engineering, and mechanical system support. Ensures, within all regulatory agency requirements, that buildings, equipment, and grounds (where applicable) are maintained in a safe and aesthetically pleasing condition to provide an appropriate environment for the wellbeing of patients, visitors, and staff. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Experience
  • 3 years of experience in trade work such as electricity, plumbing, heating/ventilation/air conditioning, refrigeration, boilers, and locksmith or HVAC certification from an accredited program if no prior work experience

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for operating and driving Children’s vehicles throughout the organization as needed and to specified vendors or sites based on operational needs.
  • Performs planned and general maintenance functions on systems and equipment, including inspecting, testing, maintaining, installing, and repairing.
  • Maintains accurate, legible records/logs of all work/rounds made in mechanical rooms and has a thorough knowledge of the major building systems operations and valve locations.
  • Uses hand, diagnostic, and power tools relating to the physical plant equipment, observing proper onsite handling.
  • Keeps tools, equipment, and mechanical rooms in safe, clean, and organized working condition.
  • Assists Engineering Coordinator in purchasing parts, supplies, and materials necessary for proper maintenance of the systems and equipment in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Meets all in-service requirements, complies with all system policies and procedures, and understands and complies with infection control, safety, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards.
