Job summary

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking an HVAC/Refrigeration technician to maintain and service refrigeration systems, HVAC equipment, and related facilities. You will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and keep environments safe and clean for patients and staff.

The role requires reading prints, performing preventive maintenance, and responding to breakdowns with urgency. A Georgia driver’s license is expected, with the ability to operate hospital vehicles when needed.

Qualifications

• HVAC and Refrigeration license or specialty training.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license and insurable driving record.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Operate and drive Children's vehicles as needed.
• Perform planned and general maintenance on refrigeration systems, HVAC systems and equipment.
• Inspect, test, maintain, install, and repair mechanical and electrical components.
• Maintain logs of all work and rounds in mechanical rooms and monitor major building systems.
• Plan ahead to minimize downtime of refrigeration systems.

Job Description

Responsible for providing effective and efficient maintenance to refrigeration systems, special refrigeration systems and HVAC supporting Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Responsible for ensuring, within all regulatory agency requirements, that the buildings, equipment and grounds (where applicable) are maintained in a safe and aesthetically pleasing condition in order to provide an appropriate environment for the well being of all our customers. To proactively support the efforts that ensures delivery of safe patient care and services and to promote a safe environment at Children's.

Experience

• Must have 3-5 years of trade work related experience in one or more of the trades found in the hospital including, but not limited to, electricity, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, boilers, or locksmith
• 3 years’ experience in the installation and repair of heating ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment preferred

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Requires detailed knowledge of refrigeration and HVAC systems and operations, being excellent in refrigeration piping and brazing skills
• Must be able to read and follow prints related to installation work
• Must be knowledgeable of systems and equipment found in the healthcare facility and all codes governing the inspections testing and operation of the equipment
• Possess good communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be able to work without direct supervision
• Ability to drive and operate Children's vehicles

Job Responsibilities

• Responsible for operating and driving Children's vehicles throughout the organization as needed and to specified vendors or sites based on operational needs.
• Performs planned and general maintenance functions on refrigeration systems, special refrigeration systems and HVAC equipment including inspecting, testing, maintaining, installing, and repairing of mechanical and electrical components including motors, motor starters, switches, solenoids, pumps, refrigeration valves, and compressors.
• Maintains accurate, legible records/logs of all work/rounds made in mechanical rooms and has a thorough knowledge of the major building systems operations and refrigeration locations, ensuring freezing and cooling systems are running at optimal levels.
• Must demonstrate working knowledge of the Isensix system, monitoring the Isensix systems, and ensuring that Isensix documentation is completed accurately and timely.
• Must be able to plan for ahead for minimal down time of refrigeration systems.
• Ability to respond to unplanned breakdowns with a sense of urgency and demonstrate proficiency in troubleshooting techniques.
• Uses hand, diagnostic and power tools relating to the physical plant equipment, and keeps tools, equipment, and mechanical rooms in safe, clean organized working condition.
• Maintains HVAC and refrigeration inventory by notifying the Engineering Supervisor in purchasing parts, supplies and materials necessary for proper maintenance of the systems and equipment, in accordance with departmental procedures and observes proper on-site handling.
• Meets all in-service requirements, complies with all System policies and procedures and understands and complies with infection control, safety, and OSHA standards.
