Job summary

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, Cherokee Mental Health Institute (CMHI), is seeking a Maintenance Repairer to join our team on a full-time basis. The role involves skilled maintenance work across the facility, with a schedule Tuesday through Friday, 6:30 a.m.

to 5:00 p.m. The successful candidate will have experience in carpentry and general construction, including building cabinets and shelving, and knowledge of trades such as electrical, plumbing, and painting.

Qualifications

• Three years of full-time work experience in two or more of the recognized building and mechanical trades (carpentry, electrical, heating and air conditioning, machinist, machine repair, masonry, painting, pipefitting, plumbing, refrigeration, and welding).
• Three years of a combination of experience and education, where thirty semester hours of post high school education in an accredited building or mechanical vocational program equals one year of experience.
• Current and continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Trades Helper.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled maintenance work for the facility to ensure safety of patients and staff.
• Repair and maintain building and mechanical systems, cabinets, shelving, and related equipment.
• Assist in routine maintenance tasks and respond to repair requests as needed.
