Job summary

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Cherokee Mental Health Institute (CMHI), is seeking a Maintenance Repairer to join our team. This is a full-time position with a Tuesday – Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

schedule. The Maintenance Repairer performs skilled maintenance work for the facility and will work on building cabinets and shelving, among other tasks to ensure safety for patients and staff.

Qualifications

• Three years of full-time work in two or more building and mechanical trades (carpentry, electrical, heating and air conditioning, machinist, machine repair, masonry, painting, pipefitting, plumbing, refrigeration, and welding).
• Three years of a combination of experience and education, where thirty semester hours of post high school education in an accredited building or mechanical vocational program equals one year of experience.
• Current and continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Trades Helper.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled maintenance work for the facility.
• Maintain safety of patients and staff through routine maintenance of equipment.
• Handle basic trades such as electrical, plumbing, painting, welding, etc.
