Job summary

General Mills seeks a Maintenance Technician for our Richmond, IN facility on the 2nd shift. Starting pay is $37.79 per hour with overtime, weekends and holidays required as needed.

The team operates a 24/7 process, maintaining large-scale pet food production lines. Responsibilities include installing, maintaining, repairing, and upgrading industrial equipment, while collaborating with experienced operators to ensure high uptime and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum education: high school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 3 years of industrial maintenance or related experience.
  • Strong understanding of PLCs, electrical motors, gearboxes and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, repair, and replace processing and packaging equipment.
  • Identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
  • Provide technical support and plant leadership for equipment issues.
  • Design and install electrical circuits and wiring, including motors and components.
  • Perform sheet metal fabrication and MIG/TIG/ARC welding.
  • Conduct uptime and downtime preventive maintenance.
  • Participate in root cause analysis (Why, Why).
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in training new employees.

Your Work Schedule and Shift Information

Currently hiring for 2nd shift Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed Plant operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Installing, maintaining, repairing, and replacing industrial processing and packaging machinery, work tools and equipment
  • Identifying and troubleshooting mechanical issues
  • Providing technical support and plant leadership for equipment troubleshooting and equipment modifications
  • Design and layout circuits, installing fixtures, wiring conduits, motors, and other electrical equipment/components, including proven ability to use multimeter
  • Performing/assisting with sheet metal fabrication; performing mig, tig, arc welding
  • Performing both uptime and down time preventative maintenance
  • Understanding, initiating, and participating in Root Cause Analysis (Why, Why)
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives to increase platform performance
  • Assist in training new employees
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 3 years of industrial maintenance or related industry experience
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and understanding of PLC operation, electrical motors, gearbox and components along with systems troubleshooting, including use of a multimeter and specialized tools
  • Experience in repairing and troubleshooting AC/DC electrical systems, reading schematics and using electrical testing equipment strongly preferred
  • Basic shop equipment (mill, lathe, grinder, presses, etc.) preferred
  • Experience in a manufacturing/production environment preferred
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces
  • Ability to climb and/or work at heights while utilizing stairs, ladders, personnel lifts, or platforms
  • Ability to wear protective clothing and equipment such as safety shoes, face masks, safety glasses, hearing protection, a hard hat, a hair/beard net and gloves when required
  • Willing and able to adhere to all grooming requirements necessary for a food manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet environmental working conditions
  • Willing to work around industrial high-speed moving machinery
  • Ability to work with allergens that might be present in a food environment
  • Ability to work in a tobacco free environment
