Title: Maintenance Technician – Auxiliary

Campus: University of North Texas, Denton | Salary: $33,312 | FTE: 1.000 | Retirement Eligibility: TRS Eligible

Position Overview

This position performs intermediate‑skilled craftwork that involves general maintenance work in housing and auxiliary facilities. Duties include installation, maintenance, repair, and service of building systems, with an advanced skill level in a primary craft and occasional competency in a secondary craft.

Supports faculty, staff, and residents by repairing offices, installing shelves, hanging pictures, moving furniture, and performing periodic inspections of doors, furniture, and lights. Maintains tools, inventories supplies, and reports needed equipment to keep work progressing efficiently.

The role is essential personnel and may require overtime, nights, and weekends, including occasional weekend events and security‑sensitive duties.

Minimum Qualifications
  • One year of maintenance/repair experience or equivalent training and experience.
  • Knowledge of and skill in the use of standard tools, equipment, and materials for general maintenance.
  • Ability to read building plans, blueprints, schematics, and working drawings to determine work requirements.
  • Basic shop math skills and problem‑solving ability for locating and repairing equipment.
  • Physical ability to lift, crawl, and remain outdoors in inclement weather; ability to perform moderately heavy physical work.
  • Understanding of safety and security precautions for maintenance work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with all hand tools and general carpentry.
  • Additional knowledge of maintenance systems (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, access control).
Required License/Registration/Certifications
  • Valid Texas driver’s license within 30 days of employment or ability to obtain one.
  • Must be able to drive a university vehicle and maintain coverage under university liability insurance if required.
Job Duties
  • Demonstrate punctuality and follow university policies for absences, time, and attendance.
  • Complete work orders in a timely manner and keep them updated.
  • Perform periodic inspections and incidental repairs in resident rooms.
  • Provide good customer service and maintain a professional attitude.
  • Collaborate with supervising technicians and request assistance when needed.
  • Communicate any issues to supervisors as required.
  • Work independently to finish responsibilities without constant supervision.

Physical Requirements

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Availability for overnight shifts and weekend events may be required.
