Job summary

Garelick Farms, Dairy Farmers of America is seeking a 2nd shift? 2nd shift? 3rd Shift Maintenance Technician to perform predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance on production and utility equipment.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting, installation support, and documentation of work orders, with safety and regulatory compliance emphasized. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, plus trade/technical training and 2–4 years of maintenance experience in manufacturing;

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Trade or technical school training preferred (electrical, PLC/HMI, mechanical, welding, refrigeration, plumbing).
  • 2-4 years of maintenance experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience with industrial equipment including material handling and process controls.
  • Ammonia refrigeration experience preferred.
  • Multi-Craft mechanical experience preferred.
  • Certifications and/or licenses must be obtained as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform planned, unplanned, and emergency maintenance and repairs.
  • Read and interpret technical procedures, schematics, manuals, and work orders.
  • Support installation and startup of new equipment.
  • Assist operators with training and troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
  • Complete and document work orders accurately and timely.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, meters, and material handling equipment safely.
  • Communicate with operations, maintenance, and management regarding equipment issues.
  • Maintain compliance with GMPs, food safety, sanitation, and safety regulations.

Shift details: 3rd Shift - Rotating Schedule: Sunday - Saturday - 11:00PM - 7:30AM, with 2 Days off a Week

$1.50/hr. Shift Differential (2nd & 3rd Shift)

External Candidate ~$1,500.00 sign-on bonus

Demonstrate proficiency in maintenance and mechanical activities to ensure equipment operates safely, effectively, and efficiently. Perform general, preventive, and corrective maintenance, including troubleshooting, repair, modification, fabrication, welding, and overhauls of mechanical and electrical systems. Work with limited supervision, receiving guidance on complex or new assignments, and serve as a technical resource for less experienced employees.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform planned, unplanned, and emergency maintenance and repairs on production, processing, packaging, and utility equipment in accordance with all safety procedures
  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections to ensure equipment reliability and performance
  • Read and interpret technical procedures, schematics, manuals, and work orders
  • Support installation and startup of new equipment
  • Assist operators with training and troubleshooting to minimize downtime
  • Complete and document work orders accurately, timely, and in accordance with standard operating procedures
  • Use appropriate hand tools, power tools, meters, and material handling equipment safely
  • Communicate with operations, maintenance, and management regarding equipment issues affecting production
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies, GMPs, food safety, quality, sanitation, and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Maintain a safe work environment in compliance with state and federal health and safety regulations
  • Support continuous improvement efforts and stay current with new equipment and technologies
  • Anticipate parts needs, follow purchasing procedures, and obtain materials as required

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Trade or technical school training preferred (electrical, PLC/HMI, mechanical, welding/fabrication, refrigeration, plumbing, etc.)
  • 2-4 years of maintenance experience (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, PLC, HVAC), preferably in manufacturing
  • Experience with industrial equipment including material handling, motor/relay/process controls, lubrication, cleaning, and packaging systems
  • Ammonia refrigeration experience preferred
  • Multi-Craft mechanical experience preferred
  • Required certifications and/or licenses must be obtained as a condition of employment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret charts, drawings, specifications, schedules, and wiring diagrams
  • Ability to inspect, diagnose, and repair equipment to prevent failures and downtime
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, meters, and material handling equipment
  • Ability to work independently and assist with complex repairs and projects
  • Ability to plan and complete minor to mid-sized projects
  • Ability to identify process improvements and adapt to change
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • Ability to perform basic math (whole numbers, fractions, decimals)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
