Job Title: Maintenance Technician 2nd Shift
Department: Maint/Engineering

Summary
The Plant Maintenance Technician conducts preventative maintenance and repairs on our physical plant and manufacturing assets at the Carol Stream and Hanover Park facilities. They perform electrical and mechanical modifications and installations to the facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure safe operation of machinery and mechanical equipment
- Maximize productive uptime of equipment
- Safely troubleshoot live voltage using a voltmeter
- Execute scheduled preventative maintenance to minimize downtime
- Complete Work Order requests promptly
- Address facility-specific requests efficiently
- Resolve most issues in-house, including electrical troubleshooting and fabrication
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organized maintenance shop
Principle Duties
The person in this position will:
- Identify problems by observing mechanical devices, listening for issues, and troubleshooting accordingly
- Perform preventive maintenance on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines using diagrams, manuals, and specifications
- Remove defective parts and examine them for form and texture
- Perform routine electrical repairs, adjustments, and installations
- Inspect used parts to determine dimensional changes using measuring instruments
- Adjust device and control instrument parts with hand tools and levels
- Inform management and workers about preventive maintenance to control downtime
- Fabricate repair parts using machine shop tools
- Maintain inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies as directed
- Use resources efficiently to accomplish job results
- Provide mechanical maintenance information and assistance
- Attend educational workshops and review technical publications to stay updated
- Document and communicate actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs to ensure team continuity
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment in compliance with procedures and regulations such as GMPs
- Contribute to team efforts and complete special projects related to product development and quality control
- Support safety initiatives and be familiar with CMMS software, PLCs, and control logic
Additional tasks may be assigned by management.
Qualifications
To perform this role successfully, candidates should meet the following requirements:
Required Education and Experience
- High School diploma or GED
- 3-5 years of industrial manufacturing maintenance experience, preferably in the food industry
- Technical understanding of equipment and electrical systems, safety, and installation
- Knowledge of HVAC, boilers, plumbing, welding, and power tools
- Proficiency with computers
Required Skills/Abilities
- Attention to detail, flexibility, knowledge, and productivity
- Willingness to work overtime and perform multiple job functions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Travel
Willing to travel to support Hanover Park and Itasca locations as needed.
Work Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 55 lbs.
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Willingness to wear PPE such as scrubs, hair net, lab coat, and facemask
- Ability to work in a packaging area with moderate powder in the air, with or without a respirator
- Ability to work above shoulders, squat, bend, twist, and perform bilateral wrist movements
- Ability to tolerate various smells and aromas
- Flexibility to adjust work schedule as needed
