Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Seward, NE seeks a Maintenance Mechanic for the 3rd shift (M-F, 10:30 pm - 7:00 am) to keep production machinery running smoothly. You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot electrical/hydraulic systems, read blueprints, and assemble or repair equipment, with welding required on occasion.

The role requires 2–3 years of electrical troubleshooting and at least 1 year of mechanical troubleshooting, plus proven reliability, teamwork, and the ability to lift 50–100

Qualifications

• Must have 2–3 years of electrical troubleshooting and repair experience and be able to operate small machinery (lathe, drill press, welding equipment).
• Must have at least 1 year of mechanical troubleshooting and repair experience.
• Able to commence and continue specific courses of action with urgency.
• Maintain positive relationships with plant management, supervisors, office, and operational employees.
• Interpersonal, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to lift/push/pull 50–100 pounds multiple times daily.
• Willingness to work all shifts as business needs fluctuate.
• Willingness to fully cross-train in other maintenance areas.
• Proven dependability and timeliness in assignments and responsibilities.
• History of excellent attendance is a must.

Responsibilities

• Work with Programmable Logic Controllers and AC/DC motors and controls.
• Read and understand blueprints.
• Assemble, install and fabricate equipment as needed (welding may be required).
• Work with steam and boiler controls and mechanical power drives.
• Assist support staff to maintain accurate inventory counts.
• Submit timely and accurate paperwork.
• Participate in safety reviews, trainings, and audits under plant management.
• Participate in a maintenance training program provided by the company.
• Provide own tools (specialty tools provided by the Company).

MAINTENANCE MECHANIC – Seward, NE

As a WestRock Maintenance Mechanic you will:

• Proven experience demonstrating dependability and timeliness with assignments, tasks, and responsibilities
• History of excellent attendance is a must

Education:

• Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required
• An Associate's degree in electrical field is preferred, but not required
