Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Maintenance Technician in the United States to maintain and repair electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. The role includes welding and machining as a plus, with a focus on safe operation and adherence to OSHA. Off-shift schedule applies.

The technician will troubleshoot and repair equipment, install and start/stop machinery, and advise operators on safe procedures. Strong PCB/electrical skills and PLC knowledge are required.

Qualifications

• Experience in electrical troubleshooting required.
• High degree of precision with minimum tolerances.
• Ability to work in overhead structures and confined spaces safely.
• Must be highly safety conscious and reliable.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical equipment.
• Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment per safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
• Advises operators on operation procedures and safety requirements.
• Informs management and line mechanics of potential problems and risks.
• Maintains maintenance records for equipment and performs preventive maintenance.
• Assists technicians and trains other maintenance staff as needed.

The Maintenance Technician maintains, tests and repairs electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components, welding and machining a plus. Applies knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to operation. Provides skilled mechanical and electrical/electronic support to all areas of manufacturing for the unionized plant. Position will be on an off shift.

How you will impact WestRock:

• Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical equipment.
• Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.
• Advises operators and line mechanics of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment and components.
• Informs appropriate management and line mechanics of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved.
• Maintains company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.
• Performs preventive maintenance functions as directed.
• Assists maintenance personnel with technical troubleshooting.
• Assists and trains other maintenance and/or other technical level employees.
• Performs other duties as required.

What you need to succeed:

• Proven experience in the mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields are required and the ability to demonstrate high proficiency in these areas.
• Experience in electrical troubleshooting.
• Computer experience/operation and PLC required.
• High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances required.
• Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work.
• Must be highly safety conscious.
• High school diploma or its equivalent required.

The starting rate is $38.87 - 44.15 per hour, depending on your role, level, and location. The benefits for this role may include short-term bonus incentive, health, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and paid sick leave as required by applicable state/local law, 5 days of paid vacation, and 9 days of paid holidays, subject to annual change. Your actual pay will be based on your work location and other factors, such as your skills, experience, and education.
