Job summary

Smurfit Westrock plc in Illinois is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform general mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repairs on production equipment and facility systems in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

You will work with 8-color printing presses, die cutters, laminating equipment, DOD printers, conveyors, and gluing/wrapping systems; analyze issues, complete maintenance reports via CMMS, and uphold safety rules while contributing to continuous

The Opportunity

This role is responsible for performing general mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair activities for production equipment and facility systems. The Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in minimizing downtime, maintaining equipment reliability, and supporting safe and efficient operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repairs on production equipment, including:
    • 8-color printing presses
    • Die cutters and punches
    • Laminating equipment
    • Drop-on-Demand (DOD) printers and conveyors
    • Gluing systems
    • Wrapping systems
  • Support facility systems, including air compressors, lighting, and plumbing.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and complete repairs in a timely manner.
  • Complete daily maintenance reports using email and CMMS systems.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
  • Communicate equipment issues and repair needs effectively with operations and leadership teams.
  • Follow all safety procedures, work instructions, and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Assist with continuous improvement efforts to enhance equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
What You Need to Succeed
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Industrial Electric experience required.
  • Experience maintaining manufacturing equipment and production machinery preferred.
  • Experience with Heidelberg, Bobst, Profold, Atlantic Zeiser, Zebra, or Precision Finishing equipment preferred.
  • Familiarity with conveyor systems, vision systems, barcode printing, tracking software, and CMMS software preferred.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to write basic correspondence and maintenance reports.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to perform intermediate mathematics, including decimals, fractions, and ratios.
  • Reliable attendance and willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and the ability to identify hazards and work safely with tools and equipment.

The starting rate is $30 per hour, depending on your role, level, and location. The benefits for this role may include short-term bonus incentive, health, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and paid sick leave as required by applicable state/local law, 10 days of paid vacation, and 11 days of paid holidays, subject to annual change. Your actual pay will be based on your work location and other factors, such as your skills, experience, and education.
