Job summary

Metals USA is hiring a 1st shift Maintenance Technician for our Northbrook, IL location. Requires vocational/technical training or journey-level experience in electrical/mechanical work, ability to read English and metric measurements, and a valid driver’s license.

The role involves preventive maintenance and high-visibility safety responsibilities. Hourly wage starts between $30.00-$31.00 per hour with a gain-share bonus potential every two weeks.

Qualifications

  • Vocational/Trade School in electrical/mechanical work or journey-level experience equivalent.
  • Basic measuring skills to read and convert English and metric systems.
  • Read/write/speak English.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Minimum 1 year in general maintenance/repair work.
  • Overhead crane experience is a plus.
  • Must have valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Dismantle machines and remove parts for repair using hand tools, crane, or hoists.
  • Reassemble machines after maintenance.
  • Start machines to observe operation and detect issues.
  • Inspect damaged parts and advise on repairs.
  • Lubricate and adjust machine components per procedures.
  • Install/replace parts per production specs.
  • Record maintenance activities and keep parts inventory.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and coordinate safety procedures.
  • Read manuals and work orders to guide repairs.
  • Use hand and power tools and meters to diagnose issues.
  • Collaborate with others to repair or move equipment.

Hourly Rate: $30-31/hour

Responsibilities:

  • Dismantles machines and remove parts for repair, using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists
  • Reassembles machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work
  • Starts machines and observes mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems
  • Inspects or tests damaged machine parts, and marks defective areas or advises supervisor of repair needs
  • Lubricates or applies adhesives or other materials to machines, machine parts, or other equipment, according to specified procedures
  • Installs, replaces, or changes machine parts and attachments, according to production specifications
  • Records production, repair, and machine maintenance information
  • Reads maintenance repair work orders and specifications to determine machine and equipment requiring repair or maintenance
  • Collaborates with other workers to repair or move machines, machine parts, or equipment
  • Maintains equipment files and orders spare-parts inventory on service center equipment and work effectively with operations to implement a preventive maintenance program to improve equipment uptime (or reliability)
  • Comply with all safety regulations and procedures
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area and promote the same throughout the facility
  • Perform highly diverse duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility's equipment
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service
  • Perform basic machinist duties and responsibilities
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties
  • Diagnose problems, replace, or repair parts, test and make adjustments
  • Perform regular preventative maintenance on machines, equipment, and plant facilities as prescribed in the preventative/predictive maintenance plan
  • Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
