Job summary

Metals USA Flat Rolled Group, Inc. in Horicon, WI is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform diverse maintenance and repair on production machinery and facility systems.

The role requires two years of maintenance experience, vocational training or equivalent, and the ability to read, write, and communicate in English. You will operate cranes safely, use hand tools, and work with automation and mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diverse maintenance duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production machinery, equipment, and facilities.
  • Dismantle machinery and remove components for repair using hand tools, cranes, hoists, and related equipment.
  • Reassemble machinery and verify operation after maintenance activities.
  • Read equipment manuals and work orders to guide maintenance tasks.
  • Diagnose malfunctions and replace defective parts; test and adjust to restore operation.

Job description

  • Must possess a Valid Driver's License

Base Wage: $28 - $36/hour

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Requirements

  • Vocational/trade school education in electrical or mechanical maintenance, or equivalent journey-level experience, preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience performing general maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Proficient in basic measurement techniques, including reading and converting between English and metric units of measure.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, and related programs).
  • Experience operating overhead cranes preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude with strong manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination.
  • Ability to respond to emergency callouts and perform repairs during evenings, weekends, and other non-standard work hours as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform highly diverse maintenance duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production machinery, equipment, and facility systems.
  • Dismantle machinery and remove components for repair using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, hoists, and other appropriate equipment.
  • Reassemble machinery and equipment following maintenance and repair activities.
  • Start, operate, and observe equipment to verify proper functionality, efficiency, and performance.
  • Inspect, test, and evaluate equipment components to identify defects, determine repair requirements, and communicate findings to management as needed.
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions; repair or replace defective parts; perform testing and make necessary adjustments to restore operation.
  • Install, replace, and modify machine parts, attachments, and components in accordance with production and equipment specifications.
  • Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance on production equipment.
  • Conduct scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance activities on machinery, equipment, and facility systems.
  • Respond to emergency and unscheduled equipment repairs during production operations to minimize downtime.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, technical documentation, maintenance work orders, and repair specifications to perform required maintenance activities.
  • Set up, operate, and adjust machinery and equipment controls to ensure proper operation.
  • Lubricate machinery and equipment and apply adhesives or other materials in accordance with established maintenance procedures.
  • Perform basic machinist duties as required to support maintenance and repair functions.
  • Utilize a variety of hand tools, power tools, electrical testing equipment, meters, and material handling equipment safely and effectively.
  • Collaborate with operations personnel and other team members to repair, relocate, install, or maintain machinery and equipment.
  • Maintain equipment records, repair documentation, maintenance logs, and other required reports.
  • Manage spare parts inventory for service center equipment and coordinate parts procurement as needed.
  • Partner with operations teams to implement and continuously improve preventive maintenance programs that enhance equipment reliability and uptime.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment and promote housekeeping standards throughout the facility.
  • Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in training, educational opportunities, and review technical publications to maintain and improve job knowledge and technical expertise.
  • Occasionally operates a company-owned non-DOT vehicle for local transportation and pickup of parts, materials, or supplies.
