Job description

The primary responsibility of the Maintenance Technician is to assist in the upkeep of equipment and provide technical support across all processes, aiding in the development of Standardization of Processes. The role ensures the safe operation of mechanical equipment, completes preventative maintenance, and troubleshoots malfunctions. This position supports 1st shift operations (7a-3p) in an automotive assembly facility.

Primary Duties:

  1. Repair and maintain industrial equipment, repairing or replacing malfunctioning production or processing equipment.
  2. Perform regular inspections and preventative maintenance, completing work orders with detailed documentation using the CMMS system.
  3. Install, program, or repair automated machinery such as robots and programmable controllers (PLCs).
  4. Troubleshoot and recover automation systems.
  5. Support operations personnel in equipment sequencing and Lock Out / Tag Out procedures.
  6. Order and install replacement parts as needed.
  7. Shutdown and disassemble machinery as necessary.
  8. Assist in root cause analysis with detailed communication of failures and suggestions.
  9. Collaborate with plant reliability engineers to improve process performance.
  10. Maintain all production-related equipment to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, uptime, yields, and throughput.
  11. Train and motivate team members to achieve collective goals.
  12. Adhere to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct, Values, and Principles.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications Required:

Candidate must have a Technical Degree or 3 to 5 years of verifiable hands-on experience in an industrial maintenance environment.

Technical Qualifications Desired:

  • Knowledge of industrial electricity, including AC/DC motor controls, switch gears, inverters, PLC controllers, ladder logic, and programming.
  • Experience in installing, programming, or repairing automated machinery such as robots and PLCs.
  • Welding/Cutting skills (stick, MIG, torch, shield, arc, oxy-acetylene, plasma) are a plus but not required.
  • Shop skills including layout, drilling, tapping, lathe, milling, bandsaw, circular saws, and small hand tools.
  • Understanding of basic machine principles, threads, fasteners, tolerance, fit, materials, and lubricants.
  • Millwright skills related to chains, sprockets, bearings, and pneumatics.
  • Electrical skills such as mounting hardware, conduit installation, wiring, and connections.
  • Diagnostic skills for troubleshooting electrical and mechanical failures efficiently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including communication, employee involvement, and problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) procedures is desirable.
