Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and repairs on electrical and mechanical systems including conveyors, pumps, motors, gears, pneumatic systems, ovens, and automated packaging machinery used in food production lines.
- Conduct regular preventive maintenance checks on all production and packaging equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
- Analyze mechanical issues, develop solutions, and execute repairs with minimal disruption to production schedules.
- Work with production teams to ensure equipment downtime is kept to a minimum and that production targets are met.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs and repair records in compliance with company policies and regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, OSHA).
- Ensure all maintenance tools and equipment are properly maintained and calibrated.
- Assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment and machinery.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex mechanical failures, often involving cross-functional collaboration with electrical, HVAC, and other engineering teams.
- Lead and mentor junior mechanics and other maintenance personnel, providing guidance on proper maintenance practices and safety protocols.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations during all repair and maintenance activities.
- Assist with inventory management of spare parts and materials to ensure timely availability for maintenance activities.
- Participate in the development and continuous improvement of maintenance processes, contributing to cost‑saving initiatives and system efficiencies.
Requirements
- Expertise in maintaining and repairing complex food manufacturing equipment such as ovens, mixers, filling machines, and packaging machinery.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, pneumatic/hydraulic systems, and electrical basics.
- Experience with predictive maintenance technologies, such as vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis, is a plus.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics.
- Knowledge of food safety standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, GMP, HACCP) is highly desirable.
- Experience with automated control systems (PLC, SCADA, etc.).
- Previous leadership or informal leadership in a maintenance role.
- Welding, fabrication, or machining experience.
- Forklift certification or experience operating lift equipment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and handle multiple priorities.
- Flexibility to work different shifts, weekends, and on‑call as needed.
