Job summary

Targa Resources in Texas is seeking a Maintenance Technician responsible for operation, diagnosis, and repair of mechanical equipment including pumps, steam turbines, and rotating machinery. The role covers startups, preventive maintenance, and ensuring safe, reliable plant performance.

You will train others, supervise contractors, and work with PPE guidelines, with travel and on-site work as needed; requires 2+ years mechanical experience and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Completion of advanced mechanical training or certificates, or equivalent work experience (2+ years).
• Experience operating engines, compressors, glycol units.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Strong interpersonal and team communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks.
• Must follow PPE guidelines and work outdoors/indoors, including weekends/night.
• Residence within 60 miles of Silver Oak, TX.
• Regular and reliable attendance.

Responsibilities

• Performs startup/shutdown of field equipment such as pumps and compressors.
• Conducts routine housekeeping related to equipment.
• Trains coworkers in safe and proper procedures.
• Directs and monitors work of contractors.
• Diagnoses equipment malfunctions and performs preventive maintenance.
• Uses basic hand tools to maintain rotating equipment.

Job description

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for operation, installation, diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair, preventive maintenance, and overall proper function of all types of mechanical equipment, including but not limited to the following: pumps, steam turbines, compressors, gear boxes, cooling fans, couplings, seals, and all rotating equipment.

JOB FUNCTIONS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs routine startup/shutdown of field equipment, such as pumps, engines, compressors, heaters, etc.
• Perform housekeeping tasks
• Training of co-workers in safe and proper job procedures
• Direct and Monitor work of contractors
• In depth working knowledge/operation of engines, compressors, glycol units
• Recognize equipment malfunctions and perform maintenance as needed
• Use of basic hand tools and lifting devised in performing maintenance
• Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completion of advanced mechanical training or certificates, or equivalent work experience (2+ years)
• In depth working knowledge/operation of engines, compressors, glycol units.
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
• Interpersonal communication skills are required in order to interface with all affected teams, personnel, and vendors; able to work in a self-directed work team.
• Must be proficient in the use of all Microsoft Office software modules, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and others
• Must work with a minimum of supervision and be able to manage their time when given multiple tasks.
• Follow and adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines (ex: eye protection, footwear, Nomex).
• Outdoor and indoor working conditions (may include some weekend, nighttime and/or inclement weather)
• Live within 60 miles of Silver Oak, TX
• Regular and reliable attendance is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• 3+ years’ experience in maintenance of natural gas stationary engines and compressors
• Has a good understanding of utilizing horsepower and compression.
• Able to troubleshoot equipment /process failures.
• Process Safety Management knowledge

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to lift, push, and pull at least a minimum of 50lbs.
• Ability to work in changing climate conditions.
• Able to work in close quarters: i.e., work while kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing
