Job summary

Targa Resources in Dilley, TX is seeking a Maintenance Technician responsible for operation, installation, diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair and preventive maintenance of mechanical equipment including centrifugal pumps, Ariel compressors, Caterpillar engines, gear boxes and related rotating equipment.

The role covers startup/shutdown, inspections, repairs, and training of co-workers in safe procedures, with direct oversight of contractors to ensure safe, reliable, and continuous operations in

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Live within 60 miles of Dilley, TX.
  • Completion of advanced mechanical training or certificates, or equivalent work experience (2+ years).
  • In depth working knowledge/operation of engines, compressors, glycol units.
  • Interpersonal communication skills are required to interface with teams, personnel, and vendors; able to work in a self-directed team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and others.
  • Work with minimal supervision and manage time with multiple tasks.
  • Follow PPE guidelines (eye protection, footwear, Nomex).
  • Outdoor/indoor working conditions (weekends, nights, inclement weather).
  • Respond to after-hours callouts for safe, reliable operations; regular attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine startup/shutdown of field equipment, such as pumps, engines, compressors, heaters, etc.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks.
  • Perform engine and compressor annual 8k inspections.
  • Replace compressor high pressure packing and valve repairs.
  • Knowledge of compressor cylinder lubrication system
  • Caterpillar ET technician software knowledge
  • Knowledge of control panel low voltage 24-volt systems
  • Training of co-workers in safe and proper job procedures
  • Direct and Monitor work of contractors
  • In depth working knowledge/operation of engines, compressors, glycol units.
  • Recognize equipment malfunctions and perform maintenance as needed!
  • Use of basic hand tools and lifting devised in performing maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for operation, installation, diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair, preventive maintenance, and overall proper function of all types of mechanical equipment, including but not limited to the following: centrifugal pumps, Ariel compressors, 3500, 3600 Caterpillar engines, gear boxes, cooling fans, couplings installation and alignment, seals, and all rotating equipment.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record

  • In depth working knowledge/operation of engines, compressors, glycol units.
  • Interpersonal communication skills are required in order to interface with all affected teams, personnel, and vendors; able to work in a self-directed work team.
  • Must be proficient in the use of all Microsoft Office software modules, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and others.
  • Must work with a minimum of supervision and be able to manage their time when given multiple tasks.
  • Follow and adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines (ex: eye protection, footwear, Nomex).
  • Outdoor and indoor working conditions (may include some weekend, nighttime and/or inclement weather)
  • Respond to after-hours callouts and emergency maintenance requests as needed to support safe, reliable, and continuous operations throughout the assigned region.
  • Regular and reliable attendance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of experience in maintenance of natural gas stationary engines and compressors
  • Has a good understanding of utilizing horsepower and compression
  • Able to troubleshoot equipment /process failures
  • Process Safety Management knowledge

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull at least a minimum of 50lbs.
  • Ability to work in changing climate conditions.
  • Able to work in close quarters: i.e., work while kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing.
