Job summary

Hood Container Corporation in Sumter, SC is seeking an Industrial Maintenance Technician to support our corrugate operations on the 3rd shift. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on corrugate equipment, troubleshoot drives, motors, gearboxes, belts, and PLC‑controlled machines.

The role requires hands‑on maintenance experience, a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to work under production pressure.

Qualifications

• Hands‑on maintenance experience required.
• Experience in a corrugated packaging plant is a plus.
• A relevant technical degree, certification, or completed apprenticeship may substitute for experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on corrugate equipment (electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic).
• Troubleshoot and repair drives, motors, gearboxes, belts, rollers, glue systems, steam systems, and controls.
• Diagnose breakdowns under production pressure and restore equipment safely and quickly.
• Read and interpret schematics, electrical prints, pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams, and PLC documentation.
• Work with AC/DC drives, VFDs, servo systems, encoders, and PLC‑controlled corrugator equipment.
• Document maintenance work in the CMMS system.
• Collaborate with operations to improve machine reliability and uptime.

Industrial Maintenance Technician – 3rd Shift (Monday – Friday, 11p- 7am)

Hood Container Corporation is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to support our Sumter, South Carolina operations.

What You’ll Do

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on corrugate equipment, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair corrugate-related issues such as drives, motors, gearboxes, belts, rollers, glue systems, steam systems, and controls.
• Diagnose breakdowns under production pressure and restore equipment quickly and safely.
• Read and interpret schematics, electrical prints, pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams, and PLC-related documentation.
• Work with AC/DC drives, VFDs, servo systems, encoders, and PLC-controlled corrugator equipment.
• Perform root cause analysis on recurring issues and recommend long-term fixes.
• Document maintenance work accurately in the CMMS system.
• Partner with operations to improve machine reliability, uptime, and preventive maintenance effectiveness.
• Follow OSHA and Hood Container safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
• (Preferred) Support vision systems, glue control systems, and automation tied to machine operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

Preferred Experience & Education

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Hands‑on maintenance experience required
• Experience in a corrugated packaging plant, with direct corrugator experience nice to have
• OR a relevant technical degree, certification, or completed apprenticeship may substitute for experience.

Technical Skills

• Strong working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot live production equipment.
• Solid understanding of electrical testing, meters, and schematics.
• Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, drives, and PLC-controlled machinery.
• Comfortable using power tools and performing welding, basic fabrication, HVAC, and electrical troubleshooting.
• Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.

Physical & Work Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly.
• Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and work overhead.
• Comfortable working around moving machinery, heat, cold, and heights.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed.
