Job summary

Hood Container Corporation in Sumter, SC is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician for the 3rd shift (Mon–Fri, 11 pm–7 am) to support our corrugated packaging operations. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and read schematics and PLC documentation.

Applicants should have hands-on maintenance experience and a high school diploma or GED; corrugator experience is a plus, and a technical degree or apprenticeship

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Hands-on maintenance experience required.
• Experience in a corrugated packaging plant preferred or a relevant technical degree/certification may substitute for experience.
• Strong ability to read schematics, electrical prints, hydraulic/pneumatic diagrams and PLC-related documentation.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on corrugate equipment, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair corrugate-related issues such as drives, motors, gearboxes, belts, rollers, glue systems, steam systems, and controls.
• Diagnose breakdowns under production pressure and restore equipment quickly and safely.
• Read and interpret schematics, electrical prints, pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams, and PLC-related documentation.
• Work with AC/DC drives, VFDs, servo systems, encoders, and PLC-controlled corrugator equipment.
• Perform root cause analysis on recurring issues and recommend long-term fixes.
• Document maintenance work accurately in the CMMS system.
• Partner with operations to improve machine reliability, uptime, and preventive maintenance effectiveness.
• Follow OSHA and Hood Container safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
• (Preferred) Support vision systems, glue control systems, and automation tied to machine operations.

Industrial Maintenance Technician – 3rd Shift (Monday – Friday, 11p- 7am)

Who We’re Looking For

Hood Container Corporation is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to support our Sumter, South Carolina operations.

What You’ll Do

Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on corrugate equipment, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

Troubleshoot and repair corrugate-related issues such as drives, motors, gearboxes, belts, rollers, glue systems, steam systems, and controls.

Diagnose breakdowns under production pressure and restore equipment quickly and safely.

Preferred Experience & Education

High school diploma or GED required.

Hands-on maintenance experience required

Experience in a corrugated packaging plant, with direct corrugator experience nice to have

OR a relevant technical degree, certification, or completed apprenticeship may substitute for experience.

Technical Skills

Strong working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.

Proven ability to troubleshoot live production equipment.

Solid understanding of electrical testing, meters, and schematics.

Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, drives, and PLC-controlled machinery.

Comfortable using power tools and performing welding, basic fabrication, HVAC, and electrical troubleshooting.

Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.

Physical & Work Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly.

Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and work overhead.

Comfortable working around moving machinery, heat, cold, and heights.

Willingness to work overtime as needed.
