Job summary

The Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to perform a range of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the upkeep of zoo buildings, grounds, and exhibits. You will work in a collaborative team environment, following blueprints and instructions to ensure safe, efficient operations.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and at least two years in a related field, with familiarity in HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems, and proficiency with

Come join the team at the Great Plains Zoo! We are now hiring a Maintenance Technician. The Maintenance Tech performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of Zoo buildings, grounds, and exhibits; performs related duties as assigned.

Competency

• Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and professional cleaning practices.
• Experience with hand and power tools, as well as other types of machinery/equipment needed for maintenance and repair of public buildings.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Manual dexterity and physical stamina.
• Must be able to follow written and oral instructions (blueprints/assembly instructions).
• Must have basic skills/working knowledge of computers to operate our software for things such as timeclock, work orders, searching for parts and equipment, and sending and receiving emails, etc.

Required Education and Experience

• Requires a high school diploma or GED certificate.
• Must have 2 or more years of experience in a related maintenance field.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Preference given to candidates with additional training, trade experience, or degree/certificate in a related field (i.e. Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical, Carpentry, Welding, Pool/Pump, Fencing, Painting/Staining, etc).

Work Schedule

• This is a full-time position working Sunday-ThursdayHours are typically 8:00am-5:00pm with a one-hour lunch break.
