Memphis Zoo is seeking a Craft Technician to perform general maintenance across campus facilities, including carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and painting.
You will inspect structures, perform minor repairs, install and reconfigure equipment, and ensure safe, functional work areas. This full-time role requires a high school diploma and 2–3 years of relevant experience; weekend work may be necessary.
The Craft Technician is responsible for general maintenance work on Zoo facilities and structures. The Memphis Zoo operates on 76-acre campus with approximately 300,000 sq ft of building structures and will perform maintenance tasks in one or more fields: carpentry; electrical; HVAC; plumbing or painting.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Reports to Maintenance Manager.
This is a full-time 40 hrs per week position which regularly requires flexible hours and frequent weekend work. Must have flexibility to respond to and be on-site for after hour emergencies.
Previous work experience completing general maintenance work on a campus environment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, chemicals and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, or moderately loud when on zoo grounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
