Job summary

Nashville Zoo is seeking a Maintenance Technician to provide skilled labor assistance to the Facilities Department. This role requires working outdoors year-round, performing various maintenance tasks based on departmental needs.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of maintenance experience. The position offers a pay rate of $22.29 per hour and includes comprehensive benefits like healthcare and a 401(k) with company matching.

  • Assist other departments and staff as needed.

Description:

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for providing semi‑skilled and/or skilled labor assistance to Facility Department sections. Maintenance Associate may be assigned duties within the Maintenance, Housekeeping, and Grounds departmental sections. Work schedule may include early or late start times and working weekends and holidays as required for meeting the zoo’s operating needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide semi‑skilled or skilled labor assistance to facility department staff. Tasks vary depending on departmental needs.
  • Complete assigned Special Event tasks; includes set up, take down of event props and crowd control equipment. Execute tasks in a timely fashion and ensure work meets Event Coordinator criteria.
  • Participate in the zoo’s Emergency Response Programs.
  • Assist other departments and staff when requested, such as unloading hay, moving furniture, and cleaning building areas.

Education/Experience:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work outdoors year‑round, including in inclement weather.
  • Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period; applicants must be able to bend, stoop and extend themselves as required for assigned tasks.
  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance.
Work Schedule:
  • Weekend and evening work as required.
  • Some holiday work may be required.
